August 6 (Sturgis Day)

So today was the day we had planned for Sturgis. We arrived early, found a good place to park and started walking and looking. There were lots of things to see. It is touted as the largest motorcycle rally in the world. It's fun, but we had walked and seen enough after a few hours. We road down to Deadwood. It was overrun with motorcycles and so we headed west to Wyoming.

We made a quick stop and met some nice people who had a puppy for us to look at too. She was a Multipoo, named Lizzie, and is adorable. It has become apparent that having our little dogs with us makes our trip much richer on many levels. People come up and talk to us that would probably never stop to talk if we didn't have our pups!

At a stop for gasoline this afternoon, we were talking with 2 couples that had just come from Yellowstone. They gave us their passes and will save us $40 tomorrow! The conversation began because of the dogs! I asked them about their trip. The two men started from Southwest Ohio around 10 days ago. They made it to LasVegas in 2 days. Their wives flew to LasVegas and began their portion of the bike trip there. I was amazed that they made that kind of time. They commented that they had logged upwards of 850 miles per day. That's where today's quote came from. One of them said they had to ride that hard because they were meeting their wives. He said, "It's hard to race an airplane with a motorcycle and win."

We spent the afternoon and early evening riding across Wyoming. It's gorgeous in a desolate kind of way. I thought the only place in the US that is devoid of population is Alaska. I was wrong. We had to make sure to keep up with the gas station stops. There were interstate exits that ended on dirt roads.

We are spending the night in Sheridan Wyoming. There is a Laundromat across the street so we are catching up on our laundry too! It's Yellowstone tomorrow!

  1. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. I'm so happy for you all. Rick called me tonight and his voice sounded so good, like he's been gone forever. lol I have to say sounds like you did the right thing taking the dogs....I didn't say but thought it was a mistake only because of the bikes, a car and I would not have felt that way at all. But I knew you would take best care of them ever. Yellow Stone is breathtaking ~ enjoy. Love Vicki
