I am beginning this Blog as I start a new journey in life. A couple of summers ago, we rode motorcycles (ours is a trike), to Niagara Falls with our amazing friends. We had planned it for months, we booked our rooms and applied for passports well in advance. None of the preparation really "prepared" me for the magnificence and splendor of this natural wonder.
We purchased tickets and rode the "Maid of the Mist" to get a closer view. The excursion travels a course that heads you right into the falls. On approach you begin to feel the forward thrust of the engines meet resistance from the force of the flow of water from the falls. You can feel the struggle between the powerful engines of the boat and the force of the water. When the force of the water becomes too much for the engines to overcome, the pilot holds the boat in that "break even" position. At this point we were pelted with overspray from falls and felt as if we were "in" the waterfall. An announcer begins speaking over a loudspeaker in several languages. When he got to english, we heard (in an amazing, loud announcer voice), "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Niagara Falls." I told everyone later, "When I'm in a Nursing Home, and can't remember anything else, repeat those words, I think I'll remember."
I am so thankful to have had that experience with those wonderful people. The Lord has blessed me richly. I have heard that some drug addicts (and I have zero supporting evidence) are always chasing their first high. As we enter retirement, I'm chasing the "High" that I experienced that wonderful day at Niagara Falls.
